What Is A Family?

A family is more than blood related. A family is those in your lives who help you through the hard times and laugh during the good times. That is what this church has done for me. FUMC is my family, my support system, my rock when things get hard.
I remember as a kid sitting at Children's church saying the most random things. Then Vacation Bible School with all the laughs and lessons. Who could forget having Mrs. Judy Reddick for Sunday school, having to memorize the books of the Bible and learning my very first verse John 3:16. Nursery time with Mrs. Joyce were the best. All those little field trips, to the "snack time". Also seeing the children in this church grow up to love the Lord shows me that even at the youngest age you can make a difference. So many memories I could go on and on about. However, the most important part is how I have grown in my faith. Through all the trials and troubles, and all the good times I have gone through my church family is right there to help.
During my high school career I have learned so much through example and Mr. Mike's highly interesting sermons. I would not have been able to be who I am without my FAMILY!!!! My Lord has been right there every step of the way. So has this church, and when I go off to college I will always remember my family. Thank you for teaching me, helping me, and guiding me.
One verse that I learned during my growth here is Proverbs 3:5-6. " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight." I have come to better understand what this verse really means, especially this year. If we trust God then we will succeed. No matter what is going on around us if we put our focus to God we can not fail.

Easter! The Resurrection! Praise to Him Be The Glory

"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lighting, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; HE HAS RISEN, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.' Now I have told you.' So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. 'Greetings,' he said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.'"
~Matthew 28:1-10
Today at my church that was the verse that my preacher used.
Christ was crucified, died, and rose from the dead. Jesus has defeated death. He rose Lazarus from the dead and Himself rose. This Easter season remember that if you have Him in your heart and live for His purpose you will live eternally. There is one part of scripture that sticks out to me so much, Luke 23:34 "Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.'" Jesus took ALL of our sin upon Himself while dangling there on the cross. What is amazing to me is that, I should of been the one on that cross NOT JESUS! However, because of Him I am able to have a relationship with my Heavenly Father. What many people do not know is there is one part in scripture that God actually turns away from His own Son. Matthew 27:46 "About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?'--which means, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" God is perfect. God is not sin! That is why He turned away from Jesus that moment.
Easter has to be one of my favorite times of the year.
Because I learn something new every year about what Christ did for me. It blows my mind that my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ died the worse death for me and YOU! Yes YOU! Now in the Gospel of Luke the twenty-third chapter verse forty-six, it says this "Jesus called out with a loud voice, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.' When He had said this, He breathed his last breath." At that moment is when He finally died on the cross at Calvary. He ascended into Heaven to be with OUR Heavenly Father. The four Gospels have different versions of all of the verses I have given. That does not matter though, what matters is whether or not you believe it. If you do and you live your life according to His purpose (Jeremiah 29:11) and truly have Him in your heart then you will have eternal life (John 3:16).

Happy Easter 2014 everybody!
